Freud and the Question of Pseudoscience
Frank Cioffiwritten especially for it. The others first appeared in collections or journals.
They have been lightly edited in the interests of clarity but except for the
removal of a few exegetical errors they appear as they were published. The
order in which they appear is that in which I wrote them, with the exception
of 'From Freud’s "Scientific Fairy Tale” to Masson’s Politically Correct
One’ which I have placed immediately after 'Was Freud a Liar?’ since both
deal with Freud’s seduction theory.
I should like to acknowledge the help and encouragement of Frederick
Crews, Allen Esterson, David Ellis, Edward Greenwood, Nick Bunnin,
Sagar Nair, Frank L. Cioffi, and 'Lord’ Ffarry MacFarquhar. I want also to
express my appreciation to the personnel of the Library Enquiries desk and
the Documentation Delivery Office of the University of Kent at Canterbury.
